RCMD is specialized in preparing political and cultural programs and projects in the field of conflict transformation and democratization. This is in addition to providing consulting services to political decision-making entities in Egypt, through creating necessary spaces for activists who are associated with the conflict issues to meet.

 It thus seeks developing a common and collective understanding in the form of initiatives for transforming the conflict, and contributing to the promotion of community harmony between groups/ movements and the state’s institutions with their different visions, through the development and promotion of conflict transformation mechanisms . This is done through focusing on issues arising from intersection between social, political, religious and economic tracks and conflicts. And also, studying democratic transition problems and subsequent institutional reform plans from a holistic perspective which includes understanding the intersections of bureaucracy with social, economic, political and sectarian tracks, in addition to trying to contribute to designing and developing public policies. In its first phase, RCMD focuses on Egypt in its work, extending to the Arab region in later phases.

RCMD’s vision

RCMD aspires to be a leading mediation and dialogue center in the Arab region and the Middle East. As well as, a fair reference in the fields of creating dialogue spaces and conflict resolution for the promotion of the region’s democratization process. RCMD works as well on creating spaces for dialogue among parties of conflict and on creating a common understanding among them, aiming for peaceful conflict resolution; through the work of a specialized team with a methodology based on a deep understanding for reality dynamics.

The Regional Center for Mediation and dialogue’s projects and activities focus on a systematic approach that includes several key elements:

1– Beneficial knowledge method

1– Beneficial knowledge method (Research for Action) based on comprehensive and realistic estimates of the situation (Assessments), and enhancing the understanding of the issue through intensive and in-depth interviews with its network, decision making centers and multiple political and social parties. This is done on the level of senior and intermediate leaders for promoting of reality discovering and participatory planning.

2– Starting with building a dialogue among all parties

Through holding several closed discussions away from all parties’ media , whether political or civil society ones, with their various orientations. This is in addition to, different relevant executive bodies such as, ministries, organizations and institutions. The purpose of these meetings is building trust among different actors in a bid to counteract polarization and stereotyping of each party and to open the door for joint cooperation among them, whether in the project’s activities or in life. This helps in proposing views, solutions and explanations for the issues in a more objective and integrative way from all the parties, helping RCMD to assess the situation in a more comprehensive and realistic way.

3– RCMD works on including practical initiatives

3– RCMD works on including practical initiatives in each project that allows different actors to work together, to achieve sustainability through the social return of the issue of concern. The participation of all the acting parties facilitates the acceptance of the implementation of the proposed recommendations and solutions, and puts pressure on the decision maker to adopt them.

4– RCMD is keen on making capacity building trainings as part of the project’s practical initiatives to guarantee the activation of the acquired skills and tools. These activities will be designed after conducting exploratory studies and situation assessment to ensure that the capacity building curriculum is suitable for the issue and the local environment, as well as the nature of the people participating in the capacity building activity.
